I feel like this is the perfect time in my life to finally buy myself another tattoo. One that has been in my head for at least the past two years. And to perhaps acknowledge my desire to finally get it, I've searched through all of my Grandma's old letters to seek out the words "Let go and be" to accompany the feather that I want on my inner left arm. What a simple phrase, yet one that holds a lot of meaning. I've always looked up to both my Grandma and mother as two women who I feel have really embodied that phrase and made whatever life dealt them work, even though at times they may have struggled.

Last week as I was right at the beginning of all of this emotional roller-coaster, a co-worker who I share many of my tattoo passions with, suggested that perhaps this was a way to take back a bit of myself...and I agree with him. So now my question is...do I get it before Sasquatch and try to fit in an appointment next week, or do I wait till I'm back and maybe have a bit more time to heal? Because this is all happening so quickly, I almost feel like it might be better to wait. I still need to decide on a feather too...I was thinking perhaps the flight feather of an owl. Hmm...more research to follow.

The truth is, I have been super busy with work (egads I haven't done an outfit post in ages...I promise to update you all with some new outfits when I get the chance) and life. Right now my life looks like: running around the town on errands, escaping the island to Vancouver for a stay with a good friend, going back and forth between two jobs, worrying about the status of my grad school applications, thinking about what that will mean for my relationship here in Victoria, and trying to stay in contact with my circle of friends.

So right now I am sort of torn...do I want to keep this blog, or should I start a second less naughty tumblr for general likes/interests and other things that catch my eye? I suppose it would be pretty much just like this blog, so I have a hard time weighing the pros and cons...but I know that many of you who follow me have also gone the tumblr route. Any suggestions? I guess I feel like this one takes more time to edit/format etc than a tumblr would. HMMMMM. What do do.

I have ranted to a few people about this already, so I'm sorry if you've already heard tirade. So I work at a pretty fancy clothing company that has stores all over the world. When an item is damaged (and is not repairable or dry-cleanable) instead of say, donating the item to a local women in needs program, our managers have to shred the items by scissor. Which I might add, they take no pleasure in. And to be honest, some of the items defects aren't that noticeable.

Earlier this week we had a regular come in because she was annoyed with how a $359 hand-knit wool sweater she bought (on sale) had begun to pill. COME ON. Natural fibers pill! And there are fabric shavers available for under $12 at the local hemming shop. Now I guess I can understand that if you're spending quite a bit of money on an item you will want it to hold up, but after having looked at the item...I don't see any issues with it. The pilling is manageable and makes it look more loved, adding to the style of the sweater. My first problem with this entire issue is that she bought the sweater 4+ months ago...we have a 30 day return or exchange policy. As a regular, she is fully aware of this but expects us to do whatever she wants. I think this is totally abusing our good nature and think someone needs to stand up to her about it. My second issue...because she has worn it and probably washed it over the past four months, there is no way we can put it back on the floor. So damaged bin it is! And I can just hear the scissors now...god damn. I wish there was some way that we could (as employees) purchase the sweater at a discount and then at least someone else could enjoy what a wonderful item it is. But nope. OR, I wish our manager could turn a blind eye so that we could take it out of the store...but that would be against our policies, obviously, and I wouldn't want her to get in trouble because she is awesome.

THIS is why I wish we had a donation program in order. It would enhance the name of the company within the community, and help numbers of women out there who say, need a nice top for a new job interview they may be facing. OR SOMETHING.

I think it is about time I posted something related to the revolution currently taking place in Egypt, and this is a very eloquently written message by an Egyptian woman. I feel that it serves as a great reminder of how much some of us take for granted, regardless of our nationality:

I can’t talk out loud right now. If I begin to talk, I will yell, and volume only works if you’re among the agitators in the Tea Party.

But right now I am outraged. I am outraged by the ridiculousness of many in the American Media, and I am particularly outraged at a significant chunk of average Americans.

A revolution started in Egypt on January 25th, and you didn’t care because American Idol was on.

People stormed the streets in protest of police brutality, and you didn’t watch it because SportsCenter was on.

While people demanded their right to choose their own government, you were choosing your next hair color.

When people begged to be heard, you put on your headphones and listened to Wakka Flocka Flame.

America, you have disappointed me. You have broken my heart.

You are so far removed from the American Revolution, Women’s Suffrage, the Civil Rights movement, or any other thing that had to be fought for, that you don’t give a damn about anyone else. Many of you don’t even know your own history, and you don’t give a damn about anyone else’s future.

Do you remember the Bosnians? The Sudanese? The Haitians? The Cambodians? The Ugandans? These oppressions occurred in our lifetime.

Even on US soil, did you read about Chinese forced labor building railroads? The Japanese Internment camps? The Trail of Tears and other treacheries against Native Americans? Can you name more than three leaders in the Civil Rights Movement? Hell, can you name your own Governor? Did you even vote?

Americans have taken their freedoms for granted for way too long.

People fought and died for you to vote, to have a say, to have a home, to have a job, to have healthcare, to have all the things that people in other counties consider a dream. People died for you, and you repay them by forgetting them, and forgetting others like them.

America, the world looks up to you. And you spit on them and watch the Superbowl. And that is why you grow angry with the world and the world grows angry with you. Because you, the average citizen, are apathetic, lazy and uninvolved.

What’s even more dangerous than your apathy, is your willingness to believe whatever you are told. Because you will turn to Fox, or CNN or MSNBC, or any station and listen for three minutes, without questioning the facts. You never question whether they are truths or lies. You never question the agenda. You never find out the source of the statistics. You “learn” just enough of what they want you to say, and regurgitate it without any thought.

Glenn Beck watchers: I’m looking at you.

Explain to me how you can swallow hogwash like “They hate our freedom” when you see Tunisia, Yemen, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, and many others fighting so hard for the same freedoms we take for granted? And folks, since you haven’t been watching, I can tell you, this happened in the past 2 weeks, not past 2 centuries.

Yeah, your founding fathers would be proud.

I would be remiss without applauding the efforts of American reporters who have boldly championed the truth about the Revolution and the Mubarak Regime to the American public.

Rachel Maddow, for example, has been very vocal about the attacks by Mubarak’s thugs on journalists, calling it “a tactic that is being used by one side,” and stating “You do not ransack press offices because you are looking for good public relations…you do it because you want to stay in power.”

Anderson Cooper traveled to Egypt and came face to face with the Mubarak thugs. While he and his team were being harassed and beaten, he STILL RECORDED on his own personal camera. He went into hiding to bring you the truth. He risked his life to educate the world.

Those Americans who still care, who still remember, who value their freedom and seek the truth about others, though a minority today, their vigilance and their voice is noted and appreciated.

But what about the majority?

Put away your issues with Taco Bell, step away from Angry Birds, and get involved. A peaceful country is being slandered, it’s people being tortured, neglected, and abused before your very eyes.

I’ve never met an American that said they didn’t want to go to Egypt.

You know about mummies and pyramids, but you don’t know about the PEOPLE. Egyptians are just like you. They want jobs, they want food, they want to get married, they want to have children, they want a future. And they want it now.

If you’re not eating, Google “Khaled Said” images, and learn about police brutality in Egypt. This is what is happening while you watch Real Housewives.

Don’t listen to the machinations that the mainstream media has conjured. I beg you, learn about Egypt from Egyptians. Develop your own opinions. Don’t take things at face value. Chances are, if you’re reading this, you already know an Egyptian, or care about the situation enough to seek one out. Congratulations, you’re more than halfway there. Now invite a friend to do the same. I’m more than happy to speak to anyone. We all are.

I urge you, STAND UP for Egyptians. I beg you to get involved. Become a part of SOMETHING BIGGER THAN YOU.

The alternative is to remain ignorant, reside in your little bubble, and wait for the day to come when you need someone to fight for you, and no one is there.

Club Monaco just got a beautiful necklace in called the Drusi Pendant; it is made of crystal points jammed together and is only plated in silver around the edges of the pendant. I wish it did this all along the back because then the back wouldn't ruin your tops.

Raw stone necklaces have definitely become super popular lately and have made me go out on the hunt to see if I can find any reasonably priced items that I like. So far Urban Outfitters has been a successful bet, as well as etsy.com, so long as you know how to search for them.

I know that we live in the most beautiful part of the world, but sometimes I see photos like this and I remember that there are many most beautiful parts of the world.

I have been having a similar conversation to this lately with other friends who have spent much of their life in British Columbia but have also had the opportunity to travel to other parts of the world. It is so true, although we brag about how wonderful BC is (and it is lovely), we tend to forget that they are just as many other beautiful places across Canada and the world.
