Corey and I started our morning today by going to VV looking for costume ideas and when that failed we continued on to the malls. Hillside had a few good ideas, but I don't really feel like spending $90 on a costume that I have a good chance of making or piecing together from my own wardrobe and maybe a few other items from a second hand store. So far, here are my DIY ideas:

The Black Canary (I'd probably style it after the older costumes rather than the newest versions):

A Robin. There is a running joke at Corey's house that because my name is Robyn, I make nests, eat birdseed and lay eggs...so I had thought of dressing up as my namesake. This should be easy, as all I would need would be a red dress (check) with brown cardigan or something over top, brown leggings (check) and then a mask or fun makeup with feathers in my hair:

Or perhaps, another comic book hero, the female version of Robin? Corey and I joked it would be funny if he dressed up as Batman and I as his sidekick...A less DIY idea but it could work:

'Babe Lincoln', which would involve buying a beard, top hat, tie and then dressing up in a miniskirt with a vest and long coat....easy enough and kinda funny:

Artemis or Athena. Easy enough, I already have the below AA dress in blue and would only need a bow and arrow and perhaps a stuffed animal as my companion for Artemis and a shield or an owl to accompany me for Athena:

Sewing

Tomorrow my lovely man and I have decided to have a productive evening of making delicious food followed by eating said food, followed by sewing and fixing up some clothing. This is good because I a) need the motivation to get some of my projects going, and b) because I like feeling productive, and if I can do it alongside someone so wonderful it is a pleasurable bonus.

All together, I feel rather productive regardless. Today I printed off $60 worth of photos from 2004 until now. Mostly of traveling adventures, but also some photographic evidence of my having a university life. Printing these photos was followed by beginning (finally) my travel scrap book. I don't have too much to complete now, it's just a matter of sitting down and doing it...kinda like doing my sewing projects.

ANYWAY, my sewing goals are:

Sometimes I like to make people things. Actually, I like making things for people a lot. There is something to be said for putting in a little effort into making something that you can give away to a person who you know will be grateful.

The following are just three wee stuffies/pillows I made for my Erin, Heather and Kelsey.

Erin moved away to SFU in the spring for school, and as she is rather attached to our cat Smudge I chose to make her a little 'bean cat' replica of him that she could take with her.


That lead me to just wanting to make something cute for Heather too. So flying elephant it is!


And well, as for Kelsey, she likes owls. I like owls. I especially like making owl pillows. Especially when they look kooky like this one:


All stuffy/pillow's are made of arctic fleece with felt for detailing and regular ol' pillow stuffing for the cushy goodness. As far as making a pattern goes, I would recommend using newspaper to cut out ideas and from there alter to your requirements.
