sexting

Ish wrote a couple of weeks ago about a 13 year old girl who committed suicide after the repercussions of what started off as a harmless "sext" became public knowledge to her school, her teachers and her parents. I think she summarizes quite nicely that had it not been for the negative reactions of her school and her parents, and the shaming that transpired, this girl probably would not have killed herself. I doubt anyone of her friends told her, "Hey, it's ok. So you sent a naked text of yourself to john doe, you shouldn't be ashamed...it's just nudity...and it's just a body. Something most people have seen before, because hey whaddya know, they have one too."

Ish also discusses the laws that surround things like this, i.e. is it considered underage pornography, what do we do about the non-consensual spreading of the message etc...

The following quote, I feel, sums the situation up nicely:
As Veronica Arreola said on her Twitter, while the media insists on calling this a “sexting-related suicide,” it’s much more accurately referred to as a “slut-shaming suicide.” Because the photograph she sent is not what drove this poor girl to kill herself — the non-consensual spreading of the photograph, and the subsequent reaction that her classmates and all adults in positions of authority had to it seems to absolutely have been what drove her to despair. And that is a truly vital distinction to make if we actually care about the fact that a 13-year-old girl is dead, and why.

Red dress

thesartorialist

I have one very similar to this, except rather than the lovely neckline on this one, mine has a much more 40's sweetheart cross-over neckline.

Regardless, I want to own a cute little belt similar to this one so that I can complete the look.

...I quite enjoy wearing dresses in the winter.

Kiki's Birthday

Last year I was invited to Kiki's birthday at Ish's place and we all enjoyed yummy food, desserts, sparkling drinks, clothing and Korean horror movies.

This year I get to celebrate again with the girls, and do much of the same things, but this time we'll do it maybe dressed like this:

And perhaps there will also be some of this:

Either way I'm happy to have a ladies night with yummy cupcakes and other goodies, because it means taking a break from deathly studying.

Have I made you all jealous?

skeleton tea spoons

I want them:

Sure they may not work so well for sugar purposes...but aren't they pretty?

Guido & Guidettes

I just learned what the term referred to after having seen clips from an appalling mtv series "Jersey Shore". Guido's are typically referred to as:
An Italian American man usually residing in New York or New Jersey. He wears shirts that are too tight and unbuttoned 5 buttons too low to show off the chest that he spent hours and hours at the gym obtaining, he spends more time on his hair than his girlfriend, and continues to “hit the clubs” long into his mid to late 30’s. Often attracted to the female version of himself, the guidette.
while guidette's are the
Female counterpart to the Guido, meaning vapid, vain, and shortsighted. Located largely in the tri-state area or wherever there is a high density of Italian families. Can be spotted generally according to lack of clothing, and lack of breathability in said clothing. Often speaks in a high, shrill voice---almost like a mating call to attract guidos. Daily life consists of clubbing, tanning, shopping, perhaps exercise or work, and not a whole lot else.

Basically I was shocked by the amazing shades of orange that both sexes seem to achieve, and the overall impression that these people must have some sort of venereal disease. Or are at least going to die of cancer...or plain stupidity. Sometimes people make stereotyping really easy.

I can hardly believe that I even took the time to post this...but with the amount of filth on TV these days it's hard not to want to critique it all.

Why is this shit popular?
